 To prepare for the multiple choice part of the theory test, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) strongly recommend that you study the books from which the questions are taken as well as the questions themselves. These books are:
- The Highway Code – this is essential reading
for all road users, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, horse riders and drivers of all vehicles
- Know your traffic signs – this contains most of the signs and road markings that you are likely to come across
Driving the essential skills – this is the official reference, giving practical advice and best driving practice for all drivers.

The Official DSA complete Theory test Kit for Car Drivers – this allows you to practice for the multiple choice and hazard perception part of the theory test. It comprises of a CD-ROM which contains all the questions and answers for the multiple choice part of the test and allows you to take mock tests. It also includes a DVD to prepare for the hazard perception part of the theory test.
These books will help you to answer the questions correctly and will also help you when studying for your practical test. The information in them will be relevant throughout your driving life.
